This International Women's Day, Women in Tech @ NUS Computing hosted the “#InspireInclusion - Celebrating and Inspiring Women in Tech” event on March 8th, 2024 sponsored by CCSGP and NUS ACE. Aimed at fostering a community of support and inspiration, the gathering brought together students, professionals, and esteemed speakers from various institutes and organisations.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the speeches from our distinguished guest speakers - Ms. Nishita Agarwal from Meta Singapore, Ms. Tan Shui-Min, CITO at NUS IT, Ms. Seow Khun Lum from Microsoft, and Dr. Shivani Gupta, an anthropologist with a keen focus on gendered experiences in urban settings. Each shared their unique journey and contributions to the tech world, offering invaluable insights and inspiring the audience with their dedication and achievements. Their sharings provided a rich tapestry of experiences, highlighting the diverse paths to success in tech and the importance of inclusivity.

The event also featured a variety of interactive activities, such as a Kahoot trivia quiz and bracelet-making, allowing for a fun and engaging evening for all attendees. Amongst these interactive activities was the Inspire game (a game based on the Jubilee Media company’s Youtube series called Jubilee Spectrum). In this game, participants had a chance to debate their stance on issues such as “I believe that organisations would be better run by women.” and “I believe that the responsibility for promoting the inclusion of women in the tech industry primarily lies with women themselves.” Additionally, attendees were able to network over dinner and discuss their own experiences and aspirations in tech, reinforcing the sense of community and shared purpose among participants.

We would like to thank all speakers and student interest groups including NTU Women in Tech, SMU Women in Tech, SUTD Google 3DC, and JCU iD8 Labs for their introductions at this event. Let’s continue to support each other in future endeavours! We would also like to give a shout out to the MCs and activity coordinators Sakinah, Minh Le, Izzah, and Giselle for keeping up the energy on the stage so well! Also, a shout to the organising team including Tina, Xu Yi, Violet, Tonishka, Vanessa, Jolyn, and Nabo.

"#InspireInclusion - Celebrating and Inspiring Women in Tech" was not just an event but a milestone for Women in Tech @NUS Computing, reinforcing the importance of diversity and inclusion in the tech world. We're grateful to all participants, speakers, and organisers for an unforgettable celebration of International Women's Day 2024.
